Let’s Talk Basketball Shirts

HYPE ALERT, Ole Miss basketball is back! Which means their student section shirts are also back and better than ever. Basketball at Ole Miss has become famously known and respected for their student section which is called “Club Red”. It is no coincidence that the shirts the students are decked out in are always RED and they are always on-point, hilarious, and relevant. So how do they create such awesome shirts? And where do they come from? We have all wondered and asked these question many times, and lucky for you, we have your answers.

The Ole Miss marketing department is the brain behind the whole operation. Every year, they sit down and talk about shirt ideas for future giveaways. They focus on current internet memes, things or sayings only Ole Miss students understand and love, and many other topics under the broad scope of pop-culture.

The shirt giveaways are generally at big, popular games to help unite the students in their support of the team. It also adds an element of intimidation for the other team when there is a sea of red surrounding you with pompoms and wild fans. Marketing orders roughly 1,300 shirts for a given game from Teamwear Graphic based in Memphis. With the help of Cardinal Club, marketing will place the shirts in the student section bleachers prior to the time when doors open. Once doors open, there is no turning back, and it is strictly first come, first serve.

A team would be nothing without the love and support of its fans. For students, getting the Club Red shirts is like having your cake and eating it too. There is something about the basketball game day experience that keeps fans coming back. Some of the most popular shirts from the 2016-2017 season were the “I’m With Bae” shirt as well as the “salt bae” meme shirt. The 2017-2018 basketball season is sure to not disappoint. The first give away of the season is the season opener on Friday, November 10th at 7 pm. Be early and be loud as you support the Ole Miss basketball team in your awesome Club Red shirts!
