Colleges Against Cancer is hosting its first annual bar crawl on October 27 titled “Chug for the Jugs.” The purpose of the bar crawl is to obtain money for Colleges Against Cancer’s annual Relay for Life event as well as celebrate the many people who have overcome breast cancer and those who are continuing to fight it. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is celebrated every year in October.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
NBCAM was founded in 1985 in October as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries. The aim of the NBCAM from the start has been to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer.
Many of the bars on the Oxford Square have decided to participate in this great cause including: The Levee, The Round Table, The Cellar, Roosters, Proud Larry’s, Rib Cage, Blind Pig, Funky’s, Frank & Marlee’s, Rafters and The Corner.
Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of college students dedicated to eliminating cancer by working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society.
For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has worked relentlessly to save lives and create a world with less cancer. Together with millions of our supporters worldwide, they help people stay well and get well, find cures, and fight back against cancer through research.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it’s time to take action against cancer.
The cost to participate in the bar crawl is $25. The price includes a t-shirt, drink special at all of the participating bars, and no cover for the night for participants. All are encouraged to come.
